As a big Lee Marvin fan, and a Steve McQueen aficionado, and a motorcycle enthusiast, there’s certain websites we here at Jupiter’s Motorcycle Rentals tend to keep track of. Don’t matter if they are necessarily about renting motorcycles in los angeles, or orange county. What does matter is the style.
Falcon motorcycles — a lot like Deus Ex Machina, but its right here in LA. I love their spare blog postings too, filled with good pics.
Hell For Leather — this blog always keeps you posted on the latest. Its one of the first things I check every morning. Not to mention, the did a nice write up on Jupiter’s Motorcycle Rentals when we first opened up in New York.
Deus Ex Machina — nice, awesome looking retro bikes. Reminds me of when my buddy Mike and I went to Tokyo, and the thing we were most amazed by were all the funky motorcycles in the city. They were all unique, with a retro sensibility, off-road ready-looking, and just plain tough and awesome. We took more pictures of bikes than the city or the people on that trip. These guys, basically replicate that. In fact, they get most of their bikes’ base from Asia.
Secret Service — an LA fave. This joint is all class, and all original. To be honest, I still haven’t been. But I’m dying to go there. I hear soon as you walk in the door they hand ya a beer, well, offer you one. And it’s an appointment only store. Now THAT is awesome.
Oh, and they only offer high-end good looking shit, and they’re the only place in the US where you can actually buy a Deus. These guys do it right. …love their very spare blog too.
Johnson Motors — This is the OG. Where it all went down. At least with Steve McQueen, Lee Marvin, etc. Bud Ekins used to run this joint, and that’s how he met McQueen and became his motorcycle stunt double, and long time riding buddy. My buddy Chip has been promising me we’ll ride here, for the past 5 years or so. Still haven’t gotten there, need to make it out. The site keeps changing, but it looks like the address has stayed the same for a while.
The Sartorialist — If you got style, want style, covet style, NEED style, this is where you need to look. Regular peeps, captured on the street. My favorite is how I’ll be on there and I’ll see a jacket I own, or something I wear photographed on someone. I saw my Barbour jacket on there. Love that thing. McQueen owned one too.
The Selvedge Yard — the owner and founder himself of Jupiter’s Motorcycle Rentals, Chris, told me about this site. Full of awesome historical tid bits, and old school shit. This is kind of what I’d like to think our shop will someday evoke, kinda like a Johnson Motors or something. Mostly I just love checking out the pics of old moto’s, old styles…looks like basically, everything comes back around in style. Pretty rad.
Good thing I kept all my old La Coste shirts — those OG’s are priceless, and look great on a hot Summer day.
–ish.
